As other Authors said, Steinitz was perhaps the first great chess player who understood the importance of "thematizing the chess content" ... This DOESN'T mean that he was the creator of a "positional school". And speaking of "style", I see that Steinitz also produced memorable combinations such as in that memorable game with von Bardeleben!
