“The iron cage of Tamerlane” is one of the most curious problems that have been composed in the history of chess. Caused furor in the nineteenth century, but today is not given so much value because in the compositions are taken into account different aspects. The idea that underlies this problem, to get the king is locked by their own pawns, has been used by many composers who have created new versions, in some cases very curious. After investigating the origin of this problem, with the invaluable collaboration of Joaquim Travesset (true expert in problems and artistic studies), I have written an article about its origin and subsequent influence on many composers”(Javier Cordero F)
