El
ajedrez del siglo XVIII estaba centrado en Francia, concretamente en
París, donde crecía la cultura de los cafés, en los que no sólo se
ofrecía comida y bebida sino también un
ambiente relajado que alentaba a la clientela a abandonarse,
encontrarse con sus amigos, leer los periódicos, fumar un buen cigarro o
disfrutar de algún juego como las cartas, las damas, el backgammon o el
ajedrez. El más famoso de estos locales fue el Café
de la Régence. Con la consolidación del imperio Británico, Londres se
convierte en el nuevo epicentro del ajedrez. Seguramente el interés
por el ajedrez aumentó debido a las hazañas ajedrecísticas de Philidor,
que coincidió con una mejora en la calidad
de los trabajos de maestros artesanos, incluidos torneros y tallistas. - Míralo en mi Colección
