Expresión acuñada por el médico de profesión y maestro Siegbert Tarrasch (1862-1934), en su libro "la partida moderna de ajedrez", que aludía así a la "ceguera ajedrecística" que a veces padece el jugador. Amaurosis scacchistica es una expresión empleada en el mundo del ajedrez para indicar que el ajedrecista ha perdido la visión amplia del juego, cometiendo uno o varios errores obvios que normalmente no cometería, como el dejar una pieza  "en prise", no ver un mate en 1, etc. Tales errores se ven con frecuencia a nivel amateur o principiante, pero también pueden ocurrir en los juegos a nivel de maestría.
